Today I stayed in familiar territory, but I covered quite a bit of ground. Best of all, I did it all on my motorcycle! That's how I roll. Making the most of a short vacation by doing two of my favorite things at once. If only I could eat pizza while riding my bike...
Today's safari took me to High Bridge and Wilmore. A beautiful ride pretty much any time of the year.
A short wait at High Bridge yielded a nice prize. I wanted to get a train headed toward me coming across the bridge. I have several shots of trains going the other way. Today I got two Norfolk Southern engines headed toward Lexington. It was just me and a nice couple (also on a motorcycle) there. They were kind enough to step back when I started shooting, so I got several unobstructed shots.
I rediscovered an old mill across the tracks in Wilmore. And I made a new friend who told me all about the Mill, and the town's history over the last 47 years. Turns out the mill has been shut down for years, but the decision was recently made to restart it. The crews were there doing some work as I was taking pics.
As I was leaving Wilmore I saw a train headed toward Lexington. There's a rural crossing near a curve that I always thought would make a nice pic if I could catch a train headed in the right direction. This one was not only headed in that direction, but moving at a speed I felt like I could beat the 7 miles or so to the crossing. I arrived with less than 5 minutes to spare. Plenty of time to park, unpack, and get set up.
Not a bad day. 2 pics I've been wanting for a while, and best of all, A LOT OF RELAXATION!!!
